Custom fields in additem.to: every field type explained

additem.to supports 18 custom field types, letting you record exactly the information that matters for your items - whether that is sensor size for a camera, warranty expiry for an appliance, or condition rating for a piece of furniture. The free plan includes 5 custom fields per inventory. Pro Local and Pro Cloud unlock unlimited custom fields.

What custom fields are for

Every inventory is different. A camera bag needs sensor size, lens mount, and firmware version. A wine rack needs vintage, region, and when to drink by. A tool chest needs purchase date, calibration date, and whether the tool is currently on loan. The built-in fields - serial number, manufacturer, model, purchase price, purchase date - cover the most common cases. Custom fields cover everything else.

Custom fields are defined once per inventory and then appear on every item in that inventory. You can mark any field as required, set a default value, and reorder fields to suit how you work. All 18 field types are fully supported on both the iPhone app and the web app at app.additem.to - fields created on iPhone are immediately visible and editable in the browser, and vice versa. On Pro Cloud, custom fields sync across all your devices. Fields are also searchable and filterable - you can narrow your item list by any custom field value on both platforms.

Text fields

Text A single line of free text. Use it for anything that does not fit a more specific type - firmware version, paint colour code, part reference, country of origin.

Multi-line Text A larger text area for notes that need more space. Useful for condition notes, usage instructions, repair history, or any information where a sentence or two is more natural than a single value.

Number fields

Number A plain numeric value. Use it for quantities, capacities, ages, counts, or any number that does not carry a currency or percentage meaning - battery capacity in mAh, number of previous owners, storage capacity in GB.

Currency A monetary value formatted with a currency symbol. Useful for tracking insurance replacement value, or a separate value field when the built-in purchase price is already in use.

Percentage A numeric value displayed with a % symbol. Use it for battery health, humidity tolerance, occupancy, or any value naturally expressed as a percentage.

Rating A star rating from 1 to 5. Useful for recording condition, quality, or personal preference - how well a tool performs, how often you use something, or the state an item was in when you acquired it.

Date fields

Date A calendar date. Use it for warranty expiry, last service date, next calibration due, best before date, or any time-based information attached to an item. Date fields work alongside reminders - you can set an alert tied to a date field to notify you when a warranty is about to expire or a service is due.

Toggle fields

Yes/No A simple boolean toggle. Use it for binary facts: is this item insured separately? Is it under warranty? Is original packaging included? Has it been PAT tested?

List fields

Select A dropdown that lets the user pick one option from a predefined list. You define the options when you create the field. Use it for condition (Mint / Good / Fair / Poor), compatibility (iOS / Android / Both), or any field where the value should come from a fixed set of choices.

Multi-select New in 2.6.0 Like Select, but allows multiple options to be chosen at once. Use it when an item can belong to more than one category simultaneously - a lens compatible with both Canon RF and Canon EF via adapter, a tool that works for both woodworking and metalworking, or an item tagged with multiple project names. Options are defined per field, the same as Select.

Contact and link fields

URL A web address. Tapping the field on iPhone opens the URL in Safari. Use it to link to the product page, the manual PDF, a repair service, or the original listing the item was purchased from.

Email An email address. Tapping it opens the Mail app. Use it to store supplier contact details, warranty registration email, or manufacturer support address.

Phone A phone number. Tapping it initiates a call. Use it to store supplier phone numbers, repair shop contacts, or emergency service numbers for equipment.

Physical measurement fields

Weight A numeric value with a weight unit (kg, g, lb, oz). Use it for shipping weight, maximum load capacity, or the weight of sporting or camping equipment.

Dimension Length, width, and height with a unit (cm, mm, inches). Use it for furniture clearances, storage box sizes, frame dimensions, or anything where physical fit matters.

Other fields

Barcode / Serial A text field optimised for barcode and serial number input. On iPhone, this field supports camera-based barcode scanning to fill the value without typing. Use it for additional identifiers beyond the built-in serial number field - IMEI, ISBN, EAN, or manufacturer part number.

Colour A colour picker that stores a hex value and displays the chosen colour inline. Use it for paint references, fabric swatches, or any item where colour is a meaningful attribute - furniture finishes, wall paint, thread or yarn stock.

Location A text field for a physical address or map reference. Use it to record where an item is stored off-site - a storage unit address, a friend's house where something is on long-term loan, or a site address for equipment that lives in the field.

How many custom fields can you have?

The free plan includes up to 5 custom fields per inventory, which covers most basic tracking needs. Pro Local (£9.99/year) and Pro Cloud (£4.99/month) both unlock unlimited custom fields. On Pro Cloud, custom fields sync across devices.

Custom fields are defined at the inventory level and apply to all items in that inventory. If you track cameras and tools in separate inventories, each can have its own distinct set of fields with no overlap.

Field types added in version 2.6.0

Version 2.6.0 added the Multi-select field type, allowing multiple values to be selected from a predefined list. This fills the gap for items that genuinely belong to more than one category, project, or classification at the same time - something the single-option Select field could not handle.

additem.to is free on iPhone with 5 custom fields included. No account needed to get started.
